Type Design

This is something i’ve wanted to do for a long time but the amount of work involved has always kept me from diving in…until now.

The concept behind this typeface is that it is monospaced and intended to be set vertically. I’ve had a fascination with monospaced typefaces for a couple years now. I think it stems from the creation of my first typeface DotDash which i use in my patterned screen prints. I love the rhythm that a monospaced font creates. OCR A Std is one of my favourite fixed-width faces (see the WordPress logo i designed).

Here is the start of the drawings and sketches. Hopefully by the end of the year I’ll have a typeface to share.

Carroll-SKETCH1
Initial sketch. Just trying to get the preliminary forms down.
Carroll-SKETCH2
Trying to figure out the “M” and “N”. Not sure if i’m going to add serif’s or not. Maybe there’ll be two typefaces by the end of all this.
